Disk and Washer Model
|
The Disk Model is a physical representation of the Disk and Washer method used to find volumes of shapes (Volumes of Revolution). This is a key topic discussed in Calculus 1 & 2 classrooms and provides a conceptual steppingstone into calculus and the way we approach the world. We can better understand the whole from looking at the infinitely tiny.
Through the model, the “Disk and Washer Method” concept is brought to life. One can easily see how the cross sections become circles (actually “disks” with tiny heights) and how increasing the number of cuts leads us to a closer and closer estimate until the point of perfection (integration). All relevant mathematical formulas are provided with a step-by-step walkthrough. The journey of forming the critical connection between the black ink writing and its meaning has never been more accessible. Seeing the process of an integral go from writing -> 2D -> 3D is priceless! Let me know your intended use / school you teach at (if applicable) for 50% off shipping! Classroom sets also available.
